Washington DC Photography - DC Cool Ad Campaign

I am truly fortunate to have the opportunity to license images from my collection of Washington DC Photography for such a wide variety of print and electronic media.  What's Cool about this image is that is was actually included in my archive of DC Photography as an afterthought - plucked from my Washington DC Cherry Blossoms Gallery by an obviously talented and extremely savvy art director for use in the DC Cool Ad Campaign - to be reproduced as full page ads in various print publications including Food + Wine, Condé Nast Traveler, Essence, Smithsonian, The New Yorker, and city magazines in major feeder markets like New York, Philadelphia and Boston, as well as 9' displays around DC.  What's especially Cool for me is this was shot fiddling around with a LensBaby I had just bought and trying to figure out how to use.  If you're not familiar - a LensBaby is an inexpensive plastic lens that offers the ability for some pretty interesting blur effects.  I was a bit concerned at first with this image going 9' but it looked fantastic.

Stumbled upon this nice scene recently - Magnificent Magnolia Tree near the US Capitol.  Actually this tree is in front of The Library of Congress and I might never had seen this perspective if I hadn't taken a break to park my bike in the shade.  This tree seemed almost perfectly formed to frame the Capitol Dome and offer a nice pleasing composition

The Spring in Focus Show Opening Reception at the Pepco Edison Place Gallery Thursday Night was a great success.  I am told by FotoDC that 1000+ people made their way through the space during the course of the evening.  Thank you to all who attended and especially Sonya Gavankar for her interest in my work and including this nice little piece in K Street Magazine.

I'm thrilled to be participating in the Spring in Focus Exhibition at the Pepco Edison Place Gallery opening this Thursday in Washington DC.  Thank you to FotoDC , Pepco , and Destination DC , for sponsoring and promoting the event. The show will include many pieces of mine along with the work of 2 other Washington DC photographers, Ron Blunt and Bob Epstein.  We hung the Show yesterday and between the three us it is just a beautiful collection of Cherry Blossom and Washington DC in the Spring images.  The Show runs April 4 -26 if interested in stopping by.

Cherry Blossoms in Washington DC

If you plan on shooting the Cherry Blossoms this year you better get ready.  The Cherry Blossoms in DC, around the Tidal Basin,  are reaching Peak Bloom very early this year. Peak Bloom expected Tuesday 3/20.  Get down early to beat the crowds and capture wonderful views to include the Washington Monument and Jefferson Memorial.  If you happen to miss them around the Tidal Basin you always have the chance to catch them a bit later on the grounds of the US Capitol - the West side of the US Capitol offers some opportunity for great images as well as the East Side near the Supreme Court.  Here's an article included in this month's Popular Photography including a few tips from me on photographing the Cherry Blossoms in DC.  I'm hoping for a day or two of dramatic early morning light to add images to my Cherry Blossom Gallery within my collection of Washington DC Images.

 Washington DC in the Spring means one thing - Cherry Blossoms - blooming around the Tidal Basin,  Cherry Blossom Trees symbolize the natural beauty of our Nation's Capital and has become part of Washington, D.C.'s rite of spring.  This year marks the 100th Anniversary of Japan's gift to our city of over 3000 trees planted in 1912 around the Tidal Basin in West Potomac Park, and on the grounds of the Washington Monument. I've been fortunate to have captured so many beautiful and iconic (= marketable) images over the years - I look forward to the opportunity in the coming weeks to create more images of our Beautiful City.
