" Wet Plate " Series

Smithsonian Institution Bldg ( The Castle )  /  Washington DC

I updated my NIK Software and discovered it added a new effect - Wet Plate.  Ive always loved the look of Wet Plate or Collodion Process Images but just never made the effort to pursue it.  Even though I basically still have all the 4x5 equipment /ect - I spent many many years with a full blown Film Processing and Print Darkroom - Have sold off much of that equipment and am pretty sure my sticking my hands in chemicals days or over.  I've noticed that many Designers selecting Images for Corporate or Hospitality Interior Design Projects have been choosing stylized Black and White Images for Install.  So I've been fooling around with this effect and created a Wet Plate Series of Washington DC Images that you may see in the link below - but who knows - maybe someday I'll get around to trying the real thing

Washington DC Photography : Providing a Diverse Collection

I am truly fortunate to have the opportunity to license images from my collection of Washington DC Photography for such a wide variety of print and electronic media.  I recently licensed 12 images to Harlequin Books as Book Covers for The Fatal Series by New York Times Best Selling Author Marie Force - with more to come.  One advantage in providing a wide variety of DC Images is that whether it's an Art Buyer or Architectural Design Firm seeking images for a Corporate / Hospitality Decor Project - or in this case a Book Publisher requiring a series of diverse DC Images - I am typically able to fulfill their entire project needs as opposed to them having to source imagery from multiple artists.  This saves the Art Director or Art Buyer time and effort, makes their job easier, and is a big plus for me in acquiring ( and expanding ) projects and licensing images of Washington DC

Washington DC Photography

We've been fortunate to enjoy a lovely string of beautiful early Fall weather here in Washington DC -  Wonderfully pleasant afternoons with exquisite light.  I've been taking the opportunity to get out - Walk the Earth - and add new Washington DC Images to my Collection of Washington DC Photography for my upcoming book project as well as my online archive of Washington DC Photographs.  Here's an image from one such beauteous afternoon - a view from President's Park South (commonly referred to as the Ellipse) of the First Division Monument with the Old Executive Office Building.

Winter returns to Washington DC

“Look round and round upon this bare bleak plain, and see even here, upon a winter's day, how beautiful the shadows are! Alas! it is the nature of their kind to be so. The loveliest things in life, Tom, are but shadows; and they come and go, and change and fade away, as rapidly as these!”  - Charles Dickens

Licensing Washington DC Photography

I am truly fortunate to have the opportunity to license images from my collection of Washington DC Photography for such a wide variety of print and electronic media.  Here's an example of an image I just licensed for the cover of the Jan/Feb issue of Modern Luxury Magazine.  This image was selected from my gallery of Washington Monument Photos - taken on a drab drizzly dreary day in Washington DC through the columns of the Lincoln Memorial.

Washington DC Stock Photography Licensing

Here's another example of licensing my Washington DC Photography for various media applications.  NBC licensed the above image for use as the opening page for NBC4 Washington's Mobile Phone App - I also licensed another image for their iPad App.  Another interesting use I have licensed Washington DC Images to NBC for was prints included in the set design for a few of their TV Series Productions. There's a whole world of opportunity in licensing images - many you might never have thought of - you just have to get your work out there and available to be found by buyers.

Postcard from this Week

If interested you can see more here, all shot one morning last week:
St Elizabeth's Proof Gallery
A creepy wonderful place - so much fun - so much to see - I thought my head was going to explode! These are just proofs - yet to be truly post processed. Basically just a quick run through Lightroom- some basic global overall adjustments and out to a web proof gallery. I can't wait to work on some of these! Almost all inside shots were with an 85 1.2L - most at 1.2. That lens just yields a certain quality that makes me happy.
